Finally, the Zeekr X is now officially launched in Malaysia. The Premium RWD is priced at RM155,800 on-the-road without insurance, while the Flagship AWD goes for RM172,800. Together with the 009 luxury MPV, the X will kickstart the Geely-owned EV brand’s journey in Malaysia. Zeekr’s franchise holder is Sentinel Automotive.
Built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), the Zeekr X shares its platform with the smart #1 and #3, as well as the Volvo EX30. At 4,432 mm long and 1,836 mm wide, the Zeekr is 162 mm longer and 14 mm wider than the #1, but the smart feels bigger inside thanks to a much higher roof (+70 mm). Both share the same 2,750 mm wheelbase. The Volvo EX30 is the smallest of the lot – it’s 199 mm shorter than the Zeekr, and you really do feel the 100 mm shorter wheelbase.
The X is being offered in two variants, the Premium RWD and Flagship AWD. Both feature a nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery with a nett energy capacity of 66 kWh (69 kWh gross). The RWD WLTP range is 440 km, while the AWD trades 20 km of range (420 km) for extra performance.
The RWD’s electric motor is rated at 272 PS (200 kW) and 343 Nm of torque, which enables a 0-100 km/h time of 5.6 seconds. That’s pretty quick, but the AWD adds on another motor for 428 PS (315 kW), 543 Nm and a century sprint time of 3.8 seconds. Top speed is equal for both at 190 km/h.
As for charging, the max DC rate is 150 kW, and getting from 10-80% state of charge (SoC) takes around 30 minutes. AC charging is at 7.2 kW for the Premium RWD and 11 kW for the Flagship AWD – a full charge takes about seven hours. This means that of the SEA trio sold in Malaysia, only the smart offers 22 kW AC charging.
From the X’s funky exterior, you can tell the AWD apart by its larger 19-inch wheels (versus 18″) and so-called intelligent B-pillar that has a small screen to show the EV’s charging status. Also, black ‘X’ badge = AWD. Inside, the AWD impresses with a 13-speaker Yamaha sound system (non-branded seven-speaker setup in the RWD) and augmented reality head-up display with a 24.3-inch projection area.
Beyond these items, both Premium and Flagship trim levels are identical. Standard kit includes full LED headlamps, LED DRLs, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate and a wireless charger.
Safety wise, you get seven airbags and a full ADAS suite across the board. The pack includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, lane centring control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, front and rear cross traffic alert, assisted parking and driver monitoring.
As for colours, choose from Crystal White, Mist Grey, Grid Grey, Palace Beige and Pine Green. The sole interior theme is Charcoal Black and Stone Grey two-tone. Once again, the Zeekr X is priced at RM155,800 for the Premium RWD and RM172,800 for the Flagship AWD. The warranty is five years or 150,000 km for the vehicle and eight years or 160,000 km for the EV battery.
The first 500 owners get to enjoy a launch package that includes a home charger, portable charger, solar film and a sunshade cover. Deliveries will start in mid-December.
If you want to view the cars, the first two Zeekr showrooms are a flagship space in Petaling Jaya (Jalan Profesor Diraja Ungku Aziz a.k.a. Jalan Universiti, the previous ‘Beemer’ showroom) and a pop-up store in Sunway Pyramid. Another four showrooms in Selangor, Penang and Johor will open in the first half of 2025.
In isolation, what do you think of the Zeekr X’s looks and package? Between the non-identical triplets, this, smart or Volvo?
