The SFA Championships 2024 Mumbai witnessed an intense battle between the exponents of combat sports and those seeking the thrill of speed on skates even as the female participants, their mothers and even volunteers celebrated the “She is Gold” day across various locations in the city on Saturday.
Boxer Sujit Bind of Chakala Upper Primary Municipal Hindi School clinched the u-15 boys 37-40kg boxing gold when referees stopped the bout against Muhammad khatib of Jankidevi Public School, Andheri, while Arjun Rewatkar of Meridian School, Dombivali got a unanimous 5:0 verdict against Ibrahim Kataria of Christ Church School (ISCE), Byculla in boys U-11 36-38 kg category.
Saturday was also the day when SFA Championships celebrated “She is Gold” day in Mumbai with a vibrant array of activities designed to honour and empower young female athletes, coaches, and parents. Mothers of the athletes engaged in various activities, including a talent show and arm-wrestling competition, while chocolates, bands, and goodies were distributed, creating a festive atmosphere across all the competition venues.
At the Somaiya Skating ring, u-9 boys and girls raced their heart out on inline stakes. Shivanya Vedwala of Akshara High School, Kandivali took the gold medal in girls u-9 1000m Inline race. Sharanya Rege of AVM School Bandra West and Dheeya Dave of Rustomjee Cambridge International took home the silver and bronze respectively.
Rustomjee Cambridge International’s Reyansh Mistry finished first in boys U-9 200m Inline race while Shaurya Mhatre of Swami Vivekanand International and Zeiig Dsouza of I Global School, Vasai finished second and third respectively.
