Fans are convinced that golfer doesn’t know who the Spider-Man actor is after an encounter on the driving range

One is among the most famous golfers in the world, having won four majors and ranking No. 1 in the world for 122 weeks during a career in which he has racked up almost $150 million US in winnings.

The other is the star of one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, playing Spider-Man in five movies which each have grossed more than $1 billion at the box office.
However, golf fans are convinced that the former doesn’t know who the latter is after an encounter on the driving range this week.
In a clip shared on social media by DP World Tour, which is hosting the BMW PGA Championship this week, Rory McIlroy and Tom Holland had what could only be described as an awkward interaction when the actor approached the golfer to introduce himself.
In the clip, which has been viewed more than 160,000 times on X, Holland approaches McIlroy with his hand extended while saying “Hello mate, sorry, I’m Tom.”

The golfer looks up from his golf bag with a quizzical expression on his face and awkwardly replies “Hello Tom, how you doing?” seemingly unaware of who he was being greeted by.
Holland politely remarks that “it’s a pleasure” to meet McIlroy, who then asks “You alright?”
The on-screen superhero says “Yeah, good man, how are you?”
The Northern Irishman then says “yeah, I’m good man,” as he prepares to continue his warmups.
Fans on social media are absolutely eating up the awkwardness of the exchange at the Wentworth Club.
“Rory doesn’t know who Tom Holland is,” one fan said on X.
“Rory completely in the zone not realizing that’s Spiderman,” another user replied.
“Rory hasn’t got a clue who Tom Holland is. Not a bad swing though!” said another, referencing the end of the clip in which Holland could be seen hitting a ball next to McIlroy.

While McIlroy may not have recognized Holland, others certainly did. The 28-year-old actor was spotted signing autographs for fans at the English golf club.

One fan in particular had a moment he’ll surely never forget.
Golfer Tommy Fleetwood’s son Frankie showed up for the event dressed in his own Spider-Man costume and got the chance to meet the man who plays the hero on the big screen.

Frankie had his own little brush with fame earlier this year when he impressed many after taking a tee shot at the Masters’ Par 3 event.
“I saw you swing a club at the Masters,” Holland remarked to a notably starstruck Frankie.
“Most people dream of hitting a ball at the Masters!” he continued. “That is pretty cool that you hit a ball at the Masters.”
