How does RF skin tightening work
RF therapy isn’t something new, it’s been praised by skin professionals for decades, to help combat wrinkles and restore firmness to your skin. RF works by sending radio frequency waves down below the skins surface to heat the dermis to encourage collagen production.
Collagen and elastin fibers are what gives your skin shape, lift and support. While collagen fibers are responsible for skin strength and tone, Elastin fibers allow skin flexibility and elasticity. Unfortunately, the amount of collagen & elastin fibers in our skin decreases and the amount of production of new fibers slows down as we age. This causes our skin to loosen, sag and wrinkle.
NEWA RF technology
NEWA devices are designed by ENDYMED, a leader in the field of medical aesthetic devices. Their machines are used all over the world by providers and this gives you their same state of the art Endymed 3DEEP ® technology but that’s safe to use at home. NEWA’s energy output is 10W which is about 1/10th strength of a professional RF treatment.
This provides deep volumetric heating which stimulates the natural production of new healthier collagen and elastin formation, creating advanced, non invasive results. The devices are safe for most people and FDA approved but definitely watch NEWA’s how to video, read their manual, FAQ’s and contraindications to be safe.
There are a few at home RF skin tightening devices but NEWA Beauty RF wrinkle reduction devices use clinical grade technology.
NEWA RF wrinkle reduction device is clinically proven to increase your skin’s collagen content by no less than 3.8% over 12 weeks of use. NEWA Beauty

NEWA review | What’s the difference between NEWA + and NEWA Classic RF wrinkle reduction device
There are 2 Newa RF devices, the older ‘Classic’ version that needs to be plugged in and the new NEWA + that’s wireless. Both the Classic and NEWA Plus RF wrinkle reduction devices use the same radio frequency therapy but I find the NEWA+ way more convenient and safer to use in the bathroom around water as you need to do it in front of a mirror.
How to use your NEWA at home radio frequency device
NEWA are easy to use once you get used to them. You’re going to want to set aside about 10-15 minutes to complete the NEWA RF treatment including cleaning the device and doing your regular skincare.
- The 1st thing you’re going to need to do is charge your NEWA beauty device overnight before the 1st use.
- Remove all jewelry.
- Start with a clean dry face and neck.
- Choose the area you wish to treat. You’re only going to treat 1 side of your face at a time.
- Remove the protective cap from your NEWA device.
- Apply 2 lines of NEWA Lift activator gel to the active tip.
- Before turning on, spread the NEWA gel over the area you’re planning on treating on 1 side of your face only. Making sure not to miss any spots!
- Turn your NEWA on by moving the switch on the side to position 1 for less intensity or 2 for more intensity. The light on the front will go blue.
- Press the blue power button on and the LED button will start flashing blue.
- Move the NEWA device in small circles using gentle pressure, keeping the probes horizontal so the probes stay in contact with your skin. Do not stop moving in circles.
- The light will go from blue to green when the NEWA device has reached the optimal temperature.
- After 4 minutes the NEWA device will vibrate indicating the treatment on that side of your face has finished.
- Repeat steps 6-12 on each area you wish to treat.
- After the treatment turn off your device with the switch on the side, wipe clean with a soft cloth or tissue and wash your face.
- Continue with your normal skincare routine or follow up with red light therapy.
Pro tips for using your NEWA radio frequency device
- Don’t use a cleanser that’s going to leave a residue can impede the conductivity of the treatment.
- Have a hydrating skincare as dry skin can impede conductivity and take longer for device to go green.
- Make sure you schedule your 1st month of treatment when you have time to commit to the intensive protocol. As for the 1st 30 days they recommend using it 3-5x a week before dropping down to the maintenance protocol which is 2-3x a week.
It does have a safety feature sensor that continuously monitors the temperature of your skin surface. So if the device is not moving or your skins surface temperature reaches 42*C then it’ll stop the radio frequency. However, if feels too hot go faster and make bigger circles, if takes a while to go green then slow down your movements and make smaller circles.
What to avoid treating and doing with your NEWA RF device
There are a few things to avoid and that are important to note with your NEWA radio frequency device.
- Don’t go any higher than your orbital bone with it.
- Avoid your thyroid, eye socket and red skin or skin with enlarged capillaries.
- Microneedling, dermaplaning, or anything that causes skin injury shouldn’t be done on same day.
- Wait at least 2 weeks after injectables before using NEWA.
- It’s not recommended to use the NEWA device if you’re using a prescription retinol product, such as Tretinoin. The use of retinoids such as tretinoin (and retinol-containing products) may have an adverse effect on the healing process of the skin treated.
- Always wear SPF: The NEWA skin tightening treatment will not make your skin more photosensitive but over-exposure to sunlight can contribute to skin laxity, so always be cautious in the sun and use SPF protection.
- It’s NOT recommended to use NEWA over internal metal fixtures in your mouth.
Do not use the NEWA to treat rosacea, moles, warts, open sores, cancerous lesions, or any skin condition. Do not use the NEWA over red skin or skin with enlarged capillaries (Cupprose). NEWA
How often do I have to use my NEWA Beauty radio frequency device
NEWA RF wrinkle reduction device is a bit of a time commitment and like most skincare devices, something you do need to be consistent with. For the 1st 30 days you start with an intensive protocol which means using it 3-5x a week. After that you can go down to maintenance protocol which is 2x per week.
NEWA review | Pros and cons
It’s only fair in a NEWA review that I list both the pros and cons, as nothing is perfect and I want to set realistic expectations.
I like that there’s no downtime, it’s pain free, feels like a nice warm massage and is a great targeted anti-aging treatment for cheek plumpness and skin tightening of the jawline. The results are also created through consistency and over time for more long lasting results.
The heat from your NEWA device can give a temporary tightening and radiant effect immediately after using it and it also helps the skincare products you apply after better penetrate your epidermis. Which is great if you want a quick fix for an event. However, for the best radio frequency therapy results, you have to be consistent and patient with it. Obviously, the more collagen loss you have, the more time it will take to see results. I’m not sure if that’s a pro or a con but something to consider.
The downside is that it takes 8 mins a couple of times a week and the results aren’t instant as it takes time for collagen production. At the moment, while it waits for more clinical trials, you’re limited to the areas you can treat.
Does NEWA RF really work
NEWA has some pretty impressive stats from their clinical study submitted to the FDA. Their trial was on people who used the device over three months for 3 times a week for the first 4 weeks and twice a week for the remaining 8 weeks.
100% of participants showed improvement in overall wrinkle appearance. In addition, 84% showed improvement in skin firmness and 75.6% showed an increase in skin collagen content. In fact, NEWA’s RF wrinkle reduction device was also proven to generate 3.8% collagen production in the skin over 12 weeks. That’s almost four years of natural collagen loss.
While NEWA is proven to show statistically significant results after 12 weeks of use, most people who participated in the FDA clinical study, no less than 89%, reported the RF device made their skin feel and look tighter after just four weeks! NEWA
The best way to track your progress and to see if it’s working or not is to take your own before and after photos.
