What Is the STaR Loan Program?
APM offers this program to help public servants save a little money on their home loans. It provides reduced closing costs for many refinancing and home loan programs, whether the customer is actively serving or retired.
STaR can be used with several home loan programs, including FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional home loan programs.
Who Qualifies for STaR?
The STaR Loan Program is open to both active and retired professionals in eligible fields. To qualify for STaR, you must fall into one of the following categories.
1. Teachers, principals, and school counselors
- Those currently employed full-time with a teaching credential in a public or private K-12 school.
- Those retired from such a position.
2. Law enforcement officers
- Those currently employed full-time with city, county, or state law enforcement as a police officer, sheriff, highway patrol officer, or trooper.
- Those retired from such a position.
3. Firefighters and first responders
- Those currently employed full-time as a firefighter, EMT, or paramedic with a city, county, state, or private company.
- Those retired from such a position.
4. Correctional officers and border patrol agents
- Those currently employed full-time with city, county, or state law enforcement as a correctional officer or border patrol agent.
- Those retired from such a position.
5. Nurses
- Those currently employed full-time as a registered nurse (RN) or licensed vocational nurse (LVN) in a hospital or clinic.
- Those retired from such a position.
How to qualify
If you qualify, you can use this program to buy your first home, buy a new home, or refinance to reduce your loan term, interest rate, or monthly payments. Whatever your goals, we’re here to make the process of obtaining a mortgage loan a little bit easier.
Here’s how to qualify:
- Present proof of your employment status in an eligible profession.
- Retired professionals must provide proof of retirement (for example, a retirement statement).
- Choose the best loan type for you (FHA, VA, USDA, or conventional).
- Meet standard loan requirements for your chosen product and loan amount.
