Euphoria and former Grey’s Anatomy star and veteran actor Eric Dane announced today that he has ALS.
Dane made the revelations in an interview with People, and said that he will continue working.
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week,” he said. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Per the Mayo Clinic, “Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis…is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time.”
The condition was long called Lou Gehrig’s disease, after the Yankees great whose career ended when he was diagnosed with the condition. Its exact cause is still not known.
Dane has been married to Rebecca Gayheart since 2004 and the couple has two daughters.
“I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” said Dane.
