AMAZON has confirmed a spin-off of popular detective thriller Bosch is not going ahead.
A potential offshoot of the hit show had been in the works at Amazon MGM Studios.
It would have featured the character Detective Jerry Edgar (Jamie Hector) in a leading role.
Nicknamed “J. Edgar”, he was Bosch’s (Titus Welliver) police partner throughout the original series.
According to Deadline, a potential show focusing on Jerry was in development since early 2023.
Had the series moved forward, it would have seen the character recruited for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami.
From there, he would have been forced to balance his new life with the city’s gritty underbelly while being chased by his mysterious past.
It is not the first time that the Bosch universe has been expanded.
In fact, the show already has one multi-season spin-off in the form of Bosch Legacy.
This follows Harry Bosch, the eponymous character, as a private investigator after retiring from the LAPD.
Bosch Legacy will end next year with its upcoming third season.
Meanwhile, a separate spin-off featuring the character Renee Ballard (Maggie Q) is moving forward as a series.
Ballard, who also hails from Michael Connelly’s novels, will be introduced in Bosch Legacy’s final season.
She is a detective tasked with the unenviable job of running the LAPD’s new cold case unit.
Occasionally, this will see Ballard reaching out to retired peer Bosch for guidance.
The character of Harry Bosch has, so far, appeared in a total of 25 novels as the lead character.
He debuted in 1992’s The Black Echo, which was also Michael Connelly’s first novel.
The author also penned The Lincoln Lawyer novels, featuring attorney character Mickey Haller.
These books have been adapted into a hit series for Netflix, starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Haller.
Bosch and Bosch Legacy are available to watch on Prime Video.
