The Shiv Sena leader stated that the BJP high command should have the final say in the matter
Amid suspense over the next chief minister of Maharashtra following the Mahayuti’s landslide victory in assembly elections, Maharashtra caretaker Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said he would accept the decision of the BJP regarding the CM’s position.
Shinde stated that he had spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the Chief Minister’s position and stressed that he would accept any decision made, with no resentment regarding the selection.
“There is no resentment, there are no speed breakers,” he added.
Clarifying his position on the Maharashtra CM post during a press conference in Thane, Shinde revealed that he had assured both the Prime Minister and Home Minister that there would be no issues in forming the new government, either from him or his party.
“I have told the Prime Minister that if there is any problem in forming the government in Maharashtra because of me, then do not bring any doubt in your mind and whatever decision you take, that decision is acceptable to me. You are the head of our family. The way people of BJP accept your decision, we will also accept your decision in the same way,” he sated.

‘BJP’s decision is final’
Commenting on speculations that someone may be upset over the top post, Shinde dismissed the rumours, stating, “For the past 2-4 days you must have seen rumours that someone is miffed. We are not people who get miffed…I spoke with the PM yesterday and told him that there is no obstruction from our end in forming the government (in Maharashtra). You make a decision. BJP’s decision is the final.”
The Shiv Sena leader also stated that the BJP high command should have the final say in the matter. “Whoever is elected as the CM by Mahayuti, Shiv Sainiks will support him,” he noted.
Shinde also expressed his gratitude to the voters of Maharashtra, saying, “I Thank all the voters of Maharashtra for supporting Mahayuti and giving us a landslide victory. It’s unprecedented… Amit Shah and PM Modi have fulfilled the dream of Balasaheb Thackeray to make a common Shiv Sainik, the CM. They have always stood with me.”
Shinde’s comments come amid growing speculation over the CM post in Maharashtra after the Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory in the recently held state assembly elections.
The ruling Mahayuti coalition, which comprises the BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, secured a commanding 230 out of 288 seats in the recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly elections, the results of which were declared on November 23. The BJP won 132 seats on its own, followed by the Shinde faction of Shiv Sena with 57 and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP with 41 seats.
‘Everyone In BJP Wants Fadnavis As CM’
Meanwhile, earlier today, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that everyone in the BJP wants Devendra Fadnavis to be the Chief Minister. He noted that while workers in the Mahayuti alliance may want their respective leaders in the top post, the final decision would be made collectively by the leaders of all three parties.
“A BJP worker never gets upset with the decision taken by the central leadership. Their decision is final. Party leaders make the right decision. The Chief Minister of Mahayuti will take oath soon,” Bawankule stated.
