Pros, cons and what really sold me on this OKC hotel
The Ellison, Oklahoma City, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel is a modern 3 star hotel near downtown OKC. We’d seen this Marriott Bonvoy Oklahoma City hotel the previous year and clocked the terrace so planned to stay the next time we visited. It meant so much was walking distance for us, looked like it might be a good shoot location and it’s a Marriott property. More on that later. It’s hard to believe this is only a 3 star hotel with it’s interior design and amenities. Here’s my unsponsored Ellison Oklahoma City review and hotel tour.

Why we stay at Marriott hotels and properties | Marriott Bonvoy benefits
We tend to try and stay at Marriott hotels as much as possible because of the points and benefits as Marriott Bonvoy members. We have lifetime Titanium Elite status which also means early check-in, late check-out (when available) and double points. We also have the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card with give us 6x points.
Booking The Ellison Oklahoma City a Tribute Portfolio Hotel meant we could use our Marriott Bonvoy membership free room upgrade perk to upgrade our room to the Writer’s Suite.
The Ellison Oklahoma City Hotel review: Suite and hotel tour
This Marriott Bonvoy Oklahoma City hotel is pet friendly, has a roof terrace bar and pool, and 24 hour fitness center but is it worth it? Would I recommend it? Here’s my honest, unsponsored review.
The Ellison Oklahoma City hotel review | Location
This isn’t really an Oklahoma City hotel as it’s a 14 minute drive to Oklahoma City but it’s only 13 miles from Will Rogers Airport and walking distance from Wholefoods, Starbucks, Flower Child and the Metro Wine Bar and Bistro.

The Ellison Oklahoma City Hotel Rooms | The Writers Suite
The first thing I notice about this OKC hotel room is how new everything feels. As well as how bright light and airy it feels. The Writers Suite is 631 sqft / 57 sqm and it really does feel spacious. I also really appreciated all of the overhead lights which so many hotels don’t have.
You enter to a hall with a side table and mirror. Then immediately to the side you have a wet bar with a sink, lots of cupboard and drawer space. I love all of the gold finishes in here. There’s also a coffee machine and complimentary water, a little cooler chest but no fridge.
However I texted them to ask and they bought a fridge up to my room within 30 minutes. Yes, they text when you check in to make sure everything’s ok and then you can use this to quickly contact them with all of your questions and needs.
The bathroom was the highlight of this suite. With a double sink, large tub which filled really quickly, spacious shower, separate toilet and walk in closet. Even the amenities were well thought out with 2 hairdryers, a steamer, safe, dressing gowns and slippers. I actually loved the bath so much, I didn’t go out the 1st night.
I got food and wine from Wholefoods next door and stayed in and had a bath and binge watched Emily in Paris.
The king bed and pillows were comfortable and the curtains kept it pretty dark. The only downside was that the room description says soundproof windows but you can definitely hear the traffic from the road it’s next to.
The Ellison Oklahoma City A Tribute Portfolio Hotel amenities
The Ellison OKC has so many amenities and all of them were so quiet when we stayed. I even had the seasonal outdoor pool to myself for 1 blissful hour. It is an outdoor pool though and they don’t have an indoor pool. So you won’t be able to use it year round.
The roof terrace is a nice spot to relax and read in the day or grab a drink from the poolside bar (seasonal) and socialize in the evening.
I always appreciate a good gym and The Ellison Oklahoma City has a brand new 24-hour fitness center which is a really good size and really well equipped. There’s lots of free weights, benches, balance balls, kettle bells, fixed path machines, cables, bikes, treadmills, and cross trainers. There’s also plenty of hand towels and cold water.
The Ellison hotel website lists casino as one of their amenities but don’t expect it to be at the hotel. When I mapped it, Remington Park racing and casino is 9 minutes away.
Other amenities include:
- Internet Access
- Accessible
- Meeting Facilities
- Smoke free
- Smoking Areas
- Concierge
- Conference Center
- Dry Cleaning
There’s no airport shuttle available but there’s free self parking and it’s pet friendly.
The Ellison Oklahoma City restaurants
Dining options are limited here. There’s 2 bars and 1 restaurant ‘Milo’ that serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and has a bar. Full breakfasts are served on weekdays from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM for a fee. They also offer room service (limited hours) and there’s a small market in the lobby.
However, it’s easy and there’s more choice at Wholefoods next door and there’s lots in walking distance. I walked to Starbucks for coffee and breakfast, Flower Child and Metro Wine Bar for lunches.
The Ellison Oklahoma City Hotel review conclusion:
This Marriott Tribute Portfolio hotel feels a lot more luxurious and well equipped than it’s 3 star rating. We were super impressed by the room size (although the regular rooms are a lot smaller, they’re also a lot more affordable). As well as the aesthetic, amenities and cleanliness. So we will definitely be staying here again for the location, roof terrace, pool and facilities.
If we stay in a different room next year I’ll update this review and compare the rooms.
