In a shocking mishap, a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus crashed into multiple vehicles in Mumbai’s Kurla West area on Monday, mowing down three and injuring at least 30 people. According to preliminary information, the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into an autorickshaw and two cars near the congested Kurla railway station.
The incident took place at 9:50 pm today. The injured people were rushed to Kurla’s Bhabha Hospital for treatment after the accident, with four in critical condition. As per a report, the driver of the vehicle was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, causing the bus to crash into several vehicles in Kurla.
According to a municipal corporation official, the driver of the BEST bus on route number 332 lost control over the wheel and dashed into pedestrians as well as some vehicles. The official told news agency PTI that the accident may also have been a result of brake failure.
It then crashed into the gates of a residential society and came to a halt. The bus was going from Kurla railway station to Andheri when the accident occurred, the official said.
The driver has been taken into custody following the incident. Emergency services were on the spot to assist the victims and manage the situation. Further details are awaited.
On September 2, a 27-year-old woman was killed and several others sustained injuries after a drunk passenger tried to grab the steering wheel of a BEST bus in Mumbai’s Lalbaugh area, following a heated argument between the two. Following such a reckless action by the passenger, the bus went off track, thereby hitting two motorcycles, a car, and several pedestrians.
